About Us

Please note, as of August 31, 2019, Treasures Charity Thrift Store is no longer in business and is permanently closed.

Treasures Charity Thrift Store was a social enterprise operated by Beginning Again Richmond Hill, a registered charity incorporated in 1986.
Treasures had a long and illustrious career serving all community members in Richmond Hill and beyond but especially the work we did to raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental illness.

Treasures Charity Thrift Store was much more than it appeared. Of course, as a second hand store, Treasures sold good quality used clothing and household goods at affordable prices, accepted donations of household items providing an environmentally friendly alternative to the landfill for people moving, downsizing or de-cluttering and offered community minded individuals opportunities to give back.

Treasures Charity Thrift Store, having served Richmond Hill from 1986 to 2019, offered easy access to rewarding volunteer opportunities that provide a positive and immediate impact to the local community and made a difference in many lives. In fact, the long standing success of Treasures depended on community volunteers to take on the regular tasks of running the retail store. Volunteers greeted customers and accepted donations, worked on cash, sorted and priced donations, displayed merchandise, organized and recycled, and made deliveries. Store volunteers usually worked one or two shifts per week. Training was provided for flexible volunteer schedules.

In addition to the thrift store business Treasures offered a Concurrent Work Experience Program for individuals affected by mental illness. Through the Work Experience Program participants who felt ready were offered a path to recovery enabling them to set their own goals, re-build confidence, gain a sense of purpose and enrich their quality of life.

Treasures was indeed a unique and one-of-a-kind Treasure.
